I’m unsigned, I do this whole music thing through my own initiative and the good grace of the people who’d call themselves fans. With that in mind, I can’t afford expensive studio time or the promotion that mainstream artists get. There are loads of artists in my position and I genuinely think its one of the most beautiful things about music (and any kind of art really) in our modern society.
There is a whole LOAD of shit out there. But there is just as much incredible, timeless stuff…if you dig a little deeper.
So, with my money situation in mind, it was tremendous news when my friend told me I could book a studio from 7pm onwards for just £50. Southampton’s like a 2 hour drive, so it was almost…pretty much perfect!
Now this studio is a converted stables. There is stories of a ghost horse that runs the premises…I was only slightly cool with this. The place was huge…and amazing…but freezing. We started doing takes at 8pm and finished at 3am. We then mixed until 7am. In the early hours of the morning when you haven’t slept…sound stops making sense…so mixing was difficult.
Either way…here it is. 5 tracks. The product of 1 sleepless, freezing night. I’m not complaining by the way. The sleeplessness, the cold, the ghost horse…you can hear it all in this record. It’s probably one of the favourite things I’ve ever recorded. And it was definitely one of my favourite recording experiences.
I hope you enjoy this one,
all my love, whoever you are
